DIRECTOR'S NOTE

"Trojan Women" of Euripides continues the project initiated by "Bacchae" during 2008-2009. The initial aim remains naturally the same - promoting Classical Greek drama all over the world, the contact of the audience with the philosophical principles and Greek culture and the rise of classic drama's diachronism. Ultimately, the goal is to bridge the cultures through communicating dilemmas given that the thirst for knowledge and curiosity are common human traits regardless nationality.

In relation to the director's approach, I remained faithful to the simplicity and the minimalism of my view. I still believe firmly that the real protagonist remains the Greek script and that's why I'm trying to show in all my performances. The respect towards the play obliges to avoid any extremities without of course neglecting the powerful cast or my own personal signature as important components of the production. Especially in "Trojan Women" where a heavy subject as war is negotiated one must be really alerted in order to avoid the danger of effortless emotional arousal and melodramatic results.

Regarding the content of the play, I have to say that the choice of "Trojan Women" is not random. In war neither side has winners, and proving that, seems as contemporary as ever judging from the difficulty of our times. The mourning, the pain and the despair of "Trojan Women" condemns the glory of the winner, showing that war leads nowhere. It is a play that has been questioned about its complexity and its uniqueness compared to the rest of Euripides' work but delivers a message with truth that none can doubt. Direct, truthful touches the souls of the audience and eventually manages to give hope through war itself -a hymn of life through death.
